Country: USA
Label: Curtain Call Records
Let's start at the beginning then. When did the band form?
We started in 2018
Who's in the band?
Me (John Harris) and I'm the lead vocalist and guitarist. Zlatko Grozl is backup vocals and guitar, and Shawn Washer is on drums
Were any of you in bands before?
Oh yeah. All of us have been in bands for years. I've been playing in bands since 2001 myself.
How would YOU describe your sound?
We're numetal/alt rock. I would compare us to Cold, Deftones, maybe with a little Slipknot
What are your musical influences?
We have a really wide array of inspiration. Zlatko and I met playing acoustic shows, doing folk and Americana. Zlatko came from Bosnia, so he has a lot of Eastern European influence. I went to school for Anthropology, so I spent years studying the culture of music. I think that's why Washer joining the band back in 2022 worked so well: he has the intellectual curiosity to look into different styles and genres. I think this wide background really comes through on the new album because it's acoustic. It's hard to hide the details.
What have you been up to lately? any new stuff to delight our ears?
Our new album Inside-Out is really different for us. It's an acoustic album with a lot of added instruments. Having to record things like violin and mandolin, it kind of makes you have to work out the subtleties in songs that were written to be heavy.
How about live dates? What have you been doing and what ya got planned for 2024?
We have a couple of shows coming up through the end of the year, but they aren't announced yet. With the new album, we want to have a lot of fun live
Name something about yourselves that fans won't know
Our original name was "John Harris and the Otherworldly Entities," but we changed it in 2019
What's the most embarrassing moment you've had?
Back in 2021, we were playing a big metal festival. A couple of hours before our set, I was on stage setting up some cameras. It was raining, and I slipped and fell off the stage onto pavement. I ended up fracturing my skull and breaking 6 bones. I had a massive seizure, and a bad concussion. It was in front of every body. We still played our set, and I was immediately rushed to the emergency room following it. 2 weeks later, we were halfway across the country playing another festival.
Do you have any superstitions? Any things you do before a show?
I don't eat before shows. A long time ago, maybe 2008, I was playing in a band and I vomited on stage. Ever since then, I don't eat for at least 12 hours before a set.
Are there any musicians or bands you'd love to work with?
We've played with so many amazing acts. Infected Rain, Cold, Ovtlier, The Bunny the Bear, Psyclon Nine, September Mourning, there have been so many. I would love to play a show with Sevendust. That would be amazing
Any final thoughts?
Check out the new album, Inside-Out, which comes out September 20!
