Even though they are originally from disparate parts of the country, Charlotte, NC based Alt Rockers Falling Through April have come together to form a cohesive unit in a city that is rich in music history and has a thriving independent rock scene. Their energy is abundant in their live shows and in the music.

Falling Through April released first single and video “Desperate Measures” in September of 2017 and have gained significant visibility: Google Play Music’s Modern Rock radio channel and iDobi radio were early supporters and are playing the song. The video premiered on Alternative Press and debuted @ #13 on the Youtube Alternative Hotlist playlist. The video is featured on the Footlocker In-Store network in 1,835 stores in 23 countries as well as several other major brand retail outlets. “Desperate Measures” is playing in over 3800 Health Clubs worldwide, and has been added to syndicated shows like MusicMix USA and Sidewalks TV, among others.

The band’s founders (Jim Siani, Dave Piontek, Dan Candia) have weathered the full gamut of hurdles as a startup since forming in 2011, ranging from exploding transmissions and ghosting vocalists to nearby celebratory gun fire landing Taylor in the hospital. When charismatic front woman Mikaela Salazar stepped into their lives in 2016, the road blocks were removed, and everyone found something to be excited about.

The 4 founders found each other while playing in different bands that were a part of the Charlotte indie rock scene. The band members came to music naturally, as they all had musicians in their family: Dan came from a long line of international musicians, and his dad always played guitar when he was growing up. Dave started in music early, and in his early teens he became enamored of the Electric Bass and that became his instrument of choice. Jim knew by the age of 13 that he wanted to be a professional musician, inspired by acts like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and his favorite band Weezer. Taylor grew up watching his Dad play drums, so you could say they are in his family DNA. Mikaela grew up in a house that was never silent, and the desire to be involved in music was second nature. She was inspired to become a singer by strong female musical role models like Alanis Morissette and Gwen Stefani.

The band has 2 previous independent releases: The Take Flight album in 2012 and the Risks and Rewards Ep in 2015.

In early 2017 FTA packed up and drove to Nashville, TN for a several month’s long recording binge with producer and friend Jon King (Augustana, Darling Parade). The result is their new album Zodiac, a powerful alt-rock collection that melds influences ranging from Incubus to Halsey.

The band has amassed a significant touring resume, having opened for Theory of a Deadman^, The Pretty Reckless ^, Pop Evil , Adelitas Way * ^, Breaking Benjamin ^ and more. They have also performed at major festivals including the Vans Warped Tour, SXSW, Florida Music Festival, Sonorous Music Festival, Dewey Beach Music Conference and Celebrate Fairfax.

– United States ^ – International

Their touring has garnered them endorsements from PRS and Reverend Guitars, among others.

FTA’s goal is to have their music reach as many people as possible around the world and for their music to inspire and encourage listeners.

Incoming Conception

Emerging from an industrial town in Norway on the cusp of the 1990s, Conception conjured a unique manifestation of progressive power metal which incorporated a myriad of influences, from anthemic hard rock and metal through to Spanish flamenco and fusion jazz. Fronted by the prodigiously talented guitarist Tore Østby and classically trained singer Roy Khan, Conception released four albums between 1991 and 1997, each of which made a vital contribution to the canon of power metal. These albums are now being reissued by BMG, each accompanied by a swathe of bonus material, reminding us once again of Conception’s creative and technical genius.

When Tore Østby started Conception in 1989, his vision was for a band attuned to the burgeoning thrash metal scene of the time. But as time went on and the band started writing and recording music for what would become their debut album, The Last Sunset, it became apparent that they were heading in a different musical direction. The line-up got adjusted with the expanding musical style with the local talents Arve Heimdal on drums and Ingar Amlien on bass, which gave the band a solid, groovy and unique
sounding rhythm section. The band was finally completed when Roy Khan came in, a powerful and melodic singer who had been studying his craft at Tonheim Folkehøgskole.

Most of the music for The Last Sunset had been written by the time Roy Khan joined Conception, which meant that he only had a month in which to rehearse before recording commenced. In that time, however, both Tore and Roy realised that they had the beginnings of a powerful creative partnership, made evident as they wrote the album’s title track together.

Released in 1991, The Last Sunset was a labour of love, with the band financing everything themselves and creating their own record label – CSF Records – in the process. Such a move demonstrated the band’s confidence in their music, and also their commitment to their art. And reviewers were quick to voice their approval, too: the title track was given significant airtime by Norway’s public broadcaster; in the UK, BBC DJ Tommy Vance championed the band on The Friday Rock Show.

What reviewers of The Last Sunset picked up on was the way in which Conception approached progressive metal from a different angle. Hard edged and aggressive riffing makes itself known from the off with the thumping opener ‘Building A Force’, and the dynamic fireworks of ‘Fairy’s Dance’ and the groove of ‘Bowed Down  With Sorrow’ are breath-taking. Khan’s voice serves as a perfect foil, adding light and shade to the music, evoking rich emotion with every note. The technicality of the songs impresses, too, not only in the flawless execution, but in the way that it never overcrowds the songs themselves. That said, Østby’s use of Latin music – such as the Flamenco parts in ‘War Of Hate’ - are an undeniable highlight of the album.

The Last Sunset, as well as Conception’s burgeoning reputation as a well-honed live outfit, attracted the attention of the wider music industry, notably Noise Records’ Karl Ulrich Walterbach who signed the band in April 1993 after receiving a demo of material written for Conception’s proposed second album.

Recorded with Tommy Newton in Germany, Parallel Minds was a hugely important album for Conception. While the band’s debut could be seen as a transitional recording, Parallel Minds can be seen as the record where Conception truly defined themselves. A bright production is married to a catchy collection of songs which both rock and uplift. There’s heaviness aplenty from the outset with ‘Water Confines’ and the Judas Priest-esque splendour of ‘Roll The Fire’, while ‘Wolf’s Lair’ is a bona fide thumper. Khan’s voice comes into its own across the record in anthems and ballads alike – it’s impossible to be unmoved by his performance in ‘The Promiser’ or in the epic closer, ‘Soliloquy’.

Parallel Minds was released in November 1993 and it opened more doors for Conception, bringing them to the attention of audiences around the world. The band’s confidence grew, as did their ambition, and the net result was their phenomenal third album, In Your Multitude.

Released in 1995, In Your Multitude found Conception excavating new seams of emotion while simultaneously developing their progressive tendencies further without sacrificing either melody or emotion. It is a complex album which warrants repeated listens. A mystical atmosphere pervades, particularly so during the album’s less frenetic parts such as in ‘Some Wounds’ and ‘Missionary Man’. Tore Østby’s flamenco influences take on a more fusion flavour here, transforming a song like the monumental ‘A Million Gods’ into one of the finest progressive epics of the decade. And, once again, Roy Khan’s voice demands attention, unlocking the music’s emotional potential, whether in a longer piece such as the title track or a hard hitter like ‘Under A Mourning Star’. One of the high points for progressive power metal in the ‘90s, for sure.

Having established a distinctive sound over the course of three albums, Conception took their audience by surprise when they released Flow in 1997. The familiar Conception touchstones were all there – Khan’s beautiful vocals, technical prowess and intriguing atmospheres – but the balance is more in the favour of melodic accessibility. Different to its predecessors, for sure, but a fantastic listen in its own right: ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Cardinal Sin’ shine with the incorporation of some electro beats; Khan’s voice is as acrobatic as ever; ‘Tell Me When I’m Gone’ and ‘Would It Be The Same’ is a reminder that Conception still groove and rock hard.

Flow, however, concluded the first chapter of the Conception story. Taking a long long break starting 1997, the members went on to other bands, notably Kamelot (Khan) and ARK (Østby), Crest Of Darkness (Amlien). The band reactivated in 2018, however, with a new EP and then, two years later, with a fifth studio album. The reaction to their reunion has been impressive, underlining just how important Conception’s first four albums have become to fans of progressive and power metal, and melodically heavy music in general.

The BMG reissues present The Last Sunset, Parallel Minds, In Your Multitude and Flow in expanded versions, each with additional  previously unreleased songs and live tracks. This additional material provides snapshots into Conception at various junctures in their history, demonstrating the evolution of some tracks which we recognise from their full-formed album versions, as well as showcasing the band as a phenomenally tight and intoxicating live unit, too.

Tore: “Putting together the band and setting out on the musical journey together has been a real adventure. With a common urge to explore and develop ourselves and our music, each album clearly shows the different phases we went through from album to album. We are as proud of each album today as we completed them.“

Roy: “There's been an increasing demand for our first albums over the years, and we are extremely happy that we finally are making them available in collaboration with BMG. Further to that we are very excited to release some really old demos and unreleased songs from the very beginning with this package. These early demos demonstrate even more clearly the journey and development of the band from start to where we are today. Enjoy!“

incoming Renegade Angel

Finnish melodic heavy / power metal band Renegade Angel released a new EP Dawn of Justice.

Bigger, better, and more bombastic than ever - Renegade Angel is back a year after they collaborated with Tim 'Ripper' Owens on their previous well-acclaimed EP Damnation. Dawn of Justice is yet another catchy melodic heavy/power metal rocker, but this time with some symphonic elements and even bigger vocal harmonies. This release has five top-tier metal vocalists sharing the vocal duties. Marius Danielsen (Legend of Valley Doom), Craig Cairns (InductionTailgunner), and Oscar Klassen (Séptimo Ángel) are doing their vocal debut here as well as Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator) behind the drums.

The mastermind behind this band - Jani Pöysä - says: "it might seem like it has taken longer to finish this release. It is very time-consuming to have so many busy, high-profile musicians involved and get it just right. It has been countless hours of hard work for all, but the band is delighted with how it turned out. We hope you appreciate it and show your support, and we will be more than happy to push ourselves to work hard to bring you the best music!"

Vinyl Impressions Show now on ROX Radio

ROX Radio is now hosting selected episodes from

The Vinyl Impressions Show

From 28th August we'll be adding shows from this popular series every Sunday at 3pm.

About The Presenter

Martyn Brown used to work for a company that hired Jukeboxes out to pubs, clubs and cafes around the UK. So, record collecting was an obvious hobby and one which he has kept up for over 45 years and counting. Collecting rare vinyl 45s (and 33⅓s, come to that) became a passion where visiting record fairs up and down the country became the norm for DJ Martyn.
You’ll hear many of the collector’s items in some of Martyn’s Vinyl Impressions shows. Martyn presents from his own studio (a converted office) in Dorset, United Kingdom each week and enjoys every minute of it, from researching, producing and presenting each programme.
He has also worked on local radio in Bournemouth, Dorset, presented shows with national radio DJs and performed at some of the biggest clubs around.
Rather than retire from music, DJ Martyn prefers to work with offline and Internet Radio to play his record collection to those who really do appreciate good quality music and who realise that there’s possibly more to music than just the ‘Top 40 charts’.

Overview of Shows

There are six new shows delivered every single month. The theme of each show is different so you can be sure of a good variety. Some of the most popular themes are produced more often, while new themes are tried every so often just for good measure. The DJ is always cheerful and the music carefully chosen. The Vinyl Impressions is an ideal schedule filler, however, most stations end up playing them out at peak times as they become so popular. The full back catalogue of, literally, hundreds of shows are available at any time from the online archives.

Vinyl Music – Different Shows

Each show is a different niche. The themes include, Vinyl Pop, Old, Gold ‘n’ Rare, Vinyl 60s, Mystery Year Top 3s, Vinyl Across The Decades, Vinyl Album, Vinyl 1990s and more.
Of course, if there is something you like, we’ll produce more of it. Thought of a theme? Let the presenter know, it’ll be on its way.
Each show is ‘supported’ by a business that gets up to four quick mentions by the presenter in each hour. There are, however, no blatant ads.

Incoming! Somehow Jo

Finnish progressive metal band Somehow Jo is set to release their third studio album Scales And Details on September 16th 2022 via Inverse Records.

The base material of the album is largely the best ideas selected from the jamming sessions and then worked in to ready songs. The lyrical ideas have been written on the basis of images from the song demos. New angle brought to the vocals with more two-tone melodies and dialogue. The texts deal with e.g. Depression, blaming others for their own problems, not getting forward in life, failing, and overcoming these. The whole package is intertwined with experimental effects and soundscape between and in the songs.

Fata Morgana
The song experiences a dry season before an
uncontrollable storm that will change everything. One
of the fastest songs on the album, exploring human life on a larger scale. Time is limited for everyone.

Friend
What happens when the burning pain in the soul is
taking over? You know you can’t escape it by running,
but you’re still trying. How far can you go alone?

Cycle
An example of a youngsters thoughts on the power that rules the world. Is the truth found by drawing a straight line between A and B? Is everything so black and white?

Spin
A small voice inside your head that tells you you can't
do it. A small sound gets bigger when you give it power and eventually it can close the door you want to walk through.

RUSH
A thesis about when you stop for the first time and
realize how beautiful a moment can be right now.

When It Falls
Like ants, we build our lives until some higher power
takes away what we have worked so hard on. All that
remains is the doctrine that has been acquired. Using it, you can start building again.

Getaway
When it feels like there are too many opinions, too
many words, too many people in the world. You want
to disappear for a moment, take a break and go on an
getaway.

Rising Sun
When you meet a someone whose presence you feel
even if you don’t see them. Even if the whole globe is
between you and it is uncertain when you will meet
again, if you meet. However, the feeling remains
strong. The feeling sometimes resembles the power of
the sun and sometimes a mist like sleep.

Mirror
The solution for so many problems can be found way
closer than we realize to look from. The closing track of the album, which gives a clear promise of the future...

BIOGRAPHY:

The rule-bending songwriting and the caressing grooves emerge from casual jamming and a
strong friendship. Somehow Jo from Tampere, Finland brings a new perspective to two guitar riffing combined with interesting rhythms and catchy melodies. Dozens of medias across the globe have compared the band to their mighty ancestors System Of A to Down,
Mastodon and Alter Bridge. Somehow Jo shows the joy of playing live with a smile that can be seen to the back row and the whole band rises to a new level every time they step on stage.

Sakari Karjalainen (Guitar) and Christian Saurén (Guitar, Vocals) formed Somehow Jo in 2009 and the band got its final shape in 2013, when Lassi Peiponen (Drums) and Eero Aaltonen (Bass, Vocals) joined the band. The debut album sought style and the promise of musical chemistry was already in the air. The album was recorded with Ari Pietilä at Headline Studio and released in 2015 through Inverse Records. The final track of the album featured Noora Louhimo from Battle Beast.

The musical chemistry began to work even tighter on the Tusk -album and the recording took place at Deep Noise Studio with Saku Moilanen. Several new elements were introduced to the album such as keyboards, slap riffs and a touch of musical humor. The album was released in 2019 and received magnificent reviews across the globe.

After the release of the album, Somehow Jo started touring with their swedish comrades Machinae Supremacy. Following successful gigs, The Grey was released as a single after the record in the spring of 2020 and the song made it to several playlists on Spotify and is still on peoples ears worldwide.

The base material for the upcoming Scales and Details -album was already sounding exciting as a result of jamming sessions and the collaboration with Saku Moilanen of Deep Noise Studios continued. The album experimented with effects, especially on guitars and vocals. Lyrically, the album challenges the listener to think, explores dark themes, but tries to find and bring positive things to the forefront.

Canadian NWOTHM IRON KINGDOM Posts Teaser + Launch Pre-Order For Fifth Album "The Blood of Creation"

L-R: Chris Osterman (Lead Vocals / Lead Guitar), Leighton Holmes (Bass Guitar), Megan Merrick (Lead Guitar), Max Friesen (Drums)

Vancouver, Canada's IRON KINGDOM is returning in 2022 with their fifth studio album "The Blood of Creation" to follow 2019's highly praised "On The Hunt", which took the band to new heights with tours across Canada, the USA, and Europe along with topping the Canadian loud radio charts at #5 (Earshot) and compliments such as "a glorious gallop of foot on the monitor, traditional heavy metal that will have NWOBHM fans drooling. 9/10" - Metal Gods TV and "40 minutes of enjoyable no-frills classic metal." - Angry Metal Guy.

"The Blood of Creation" continues the reign of classic heavy metal that Iron Kingdom has been presenting over the years to music lovers of the style along with keeping the flame burning for a new generation.

"We wanted to create music in a style of metal that seemed to have been forgotten when we were kids. Since no one else seemed to be doing it, we decided to play metal the way it used to be played in the 70s and 80s. That was the reason for forming Iron Kingdom. Essentially, we wanted to give people an exciting show like an early Iron Maiden, Scorpions, or Saxon show from the 1980s." recalls guitarist/vocalist Chris Osterman on the beginnings of the band.

Iron Kingdom has come a long way since their 2011 debut "Curse Of The Voodoo Queen" and their next offering is a potent full force of classic shredding heavy metal thunder and will take fans into some unique fantastic worlds they may or may not have experienced, but will also show a dark side of storytelling.

"I think we started as a bit more of a hard rock band on the first record, taking a progressive metal dive for Gates Of Eternity and Ride For Glory, then for On The Hunt, I’d say we went fully classic metal, leading into this new record being a pretty solid mix of all those styles combined. We also came out of the pandemic, which brought some darker emotions some people may have never experienced previously that I think this album may parallel. In the end though, we want people to get the chance to escape this world for a time and find solace in the music." adds Osterman.

The new album also sees new drummer Max Friesen (ex-Ophelia Falling) making his recording debut with the band to add another angle to their songwriting for this release. The album was self-produced by Iron Kingdom with mixing done by Andy Boldt and mastering by Greg Reely (Overkill, Fear Factory, 3 Inches of Blood).

Recommended for fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween, and Saxon, Iron Kingdom is sharing their teaser for "The Blood of Creation" that can be heard at https://youtu.be/V-9Cr-ABE3I

The album track listing, artwork, and singles will be revealed in the coming weeks and is available for pre-order at the following links:

About: Inspired by legendary pillars of heavy metal such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Scorpions, and Rush, this four-piece is well known for their energetic and electrifying stage presence, as well as intricate musical melodies that bring listeners back to a time when heavy metal was in its prime.

Formed in Surrey, B.C. Canada, in June of 2011, the band's core members were Chris Osterman on guitar and vocals, bassist Leighton Holmes, and drummer Amanda Osterman, joined by Jordan Wright on guitar. This quickly changed, after recording their debut album ‘Curse Of The Voodoo Queen’ Jordan was replaced by guitarist Kenny Kroecher. ‘Curse Of The Voodoo Queen’ was released on Dec 14, 2011, and the band took the opportunity to tour western Canada, along with an appearance on the TV Show, Canada’s Got Talent.

With the debut album receiving little attention, the group decided it was time to record a new album, and by April 26, 2013, ‘Gates Of Eternity’ was released. Garnering some strong reviews coming in around the world, attention was growing, and the band was invited to perform at Germany’s Keep It True XVII festival. This opened up many new avenues for the act to pursue, including some serious time on the road through Canada in 2013, and Europe in 2014, followed by a tour in the USA with California’s Night Demon. The band had created some major momentum and Iron Kingdom was spreading their moniker far and wide in support of the first two releases.

On July 30, 2015, Iron Kingdom released not one, but two more albums, ‘Ride For Glory’ their 3rd full-length album, as well as ‘Unleashed at the Kraken (Live in Seattle)’ an exclusive live E.P. recorded on a previous tour. The band set out on the road again in support of the two new releases. The tour was unfortunately riddled with many trials, including a vehicle accident that almost killed the band members. Following the tour, Amanda decided to step back from the band to pursue other commitments. Joey Paul then took her place behind the kit.

Life on the road continued, including a massive North American tour in 2016, as well as a tour in Brazil in a supporting slot for former frontman of Iron Maiden, Blaze Bayley. After many performances, guitarist Kenny and drummer Joey departed, thus leaving the door open for Chris Sonea, and Megan Merrick, on drums and guitar respectively.

It took four years for the follow-up album after ‘Ride For Glory’, but finally on Oct 4, 2019, ‘On The Hunt’ was released. This was the fourth full-length release from this traditional metal act. Iron Kingdom toured ‘On The Hunt’ immediately with an extensive North American tour in the fall of 2019, and shortly after, toured Europe in March of 2020. Thankfully the band was able to perform the majority of their European dates, but unfortunately, COVID-19 took its toll and their final performance was canceled. At the return of the tour, drummer Chris Sonea decided to depart from the group, and the band (now consisting of band members, Leighton Holmes, Chris Osterman, and Megan Merrick) began auditions to fill the void on the drums.

In the Spring of 2020, Max Friesen joined the band, taking his seat behind the kit, and once again, Iron Kingdom stands ready to take the world by storm and aid in the revival of the mighty and classic sounds of Traditional Heavy Metal. Their new album "The Blood of Creation" is scheduled to be released in Fall 2022.

#5 (On The Hunt) Canadian National Loud Chart - For the Week Ending: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 (earshot)

"a glorious gallop of foot on the monitor, traditional heavy metal that will have NWOBHM fans drooling. 9/10" - Metal Gods TV

"It's a pleasure when you have the chance to listening to bands such as IRON KINGDOM, true defenders of best tradition of our loved music. 88/100" - Hard Rock Heavy Metal

"One of Western Canada’s finest exports is traditional heavy metal band Iron Kingdom... another solid effort proving why Canada is by far the best country for modern traditional heavy metal!" - Skull Fracturing Metal

"With On The Hunt, you can expect Iron Kingdom's traditional heavy metal. They make no apologies for invoking legends like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, et al, for metal inspiration. Not dismissing the excellent rhythm section, but with the twin guitar attack of Osterman and Merrick, you'll find all the songs within On The Hunt quite guitar-forward... Essentially, with this album, Iron Kingdom remains true to their metal style.
4/5" - DangerDog Music Reviews

"Of the hundreds of heavy metal bands that have “Iron” in their name, not very many of them are deserving of it. Iron Maiden? Obviously. Iron Savior? Yup. Iron Fire? Definitely. Of course, Iron Kingdom are undoubtedly deserving of the mark, because the metal they’ve forged is strong, heavy, and true. 9/10" - Power Thorn

"Holy Shit! Have you heard Iron Kingdom's On the Hunt? If you haven't you are missing out on one of the coolest album's of 2019." -

TYRANTS OF CHAOS Shares Their Judas Priest Inspired "Slay The Hostages"

New Album "Relentless Thirst for Power" Out Aug 19th

Lethbridge, Canada's Tyrants of Chaos have been pillaging across Alberta with their old-school classic heavy metal and are now amping up the ante with 10 new bangers on their third studio album "Relentless Thirst for Power" set to be unleashed this coming August.

Earlier this July, they shared their first single "T.O.C." and are ready to share their second track off the record to preview to fans. Entitled "Slay the Hostages"Tyrants of Chaos present a Judas Priest style, ear piercing, balls-out metal assault. Lyrically similar to "T.O.C.""Slay the Hostages" sounds like a song about committing crimes and sacrifices, but it is simply about playing metal shows and entertaining the crowd as can be witnessed in the music video for the single via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Tyrants of Chaos' new album “Relentless Thirst For Power” covers a lot of topics lyrically, listeners will be able to dive into songs such as the classic Teutonic power metal track “Indoctri-Nation”, which focuses on mental health issues to the “No Lives Matter” ballad that forces one to confront their mortality; and the classic “Lucky Dog” that is reminiscent of the 80s sounds of the Big 4.

Formed in 2013 for the love and passion of music by guitarist Curtiss Vaselenak and to fill a gap in the local scene, the band originally started as a fun hard rock and metal cover band. After some shuffling, he is now joined by guitarist Arik Wagner, bassist Sean Simpson, drummer Ryan Dyck, and vocalist Phil Sirias who complete the current lineup. With many years of experience between them, they bring professionalism and solid musicianship to both the stage and the studio.

Tyrants of Chaos already have two albums under their belts, “The Calm Before The Storm” (2016) and “Into Oblivion” (2019), and this new offering consists of ten fist-pumping, head-banging tracks that were written specifically for this album. It is just scratching the surface of what the band has in store, they don't intend to slow down anytime soon.

Heavy and loud, Tyrants Of Chaos delivers a solid pummeling of pure heavy metal. No gimmicks, no gags, just passion, and honesty. They are recommended listening for fans of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth.

The album “Relentless Thirst For Power” will be out on August 19, 2022.
