Ventures In Profile

1. Let’s start at the beginning then. When did the band form?

We started as a mess-around band back in 2016 with me and preview singer Dan missing just hanging out with friends and writing music etc so we threw together a band with close friends. After around a year we realised that we had something special and wanted to show everyone so we decided to start taking it seriously and we’ve been moving forward ever since

2x drummers and 3x bass players later

2. Who’s in the band?

You have myself (Richard) i play the guitar and write a high majority of our songs then we have Ollie May. Ollie has been with Ventures since the start but he was originally on Bass and backing vocals but when we parted with Dan Ollie stepped up to vocals and has been smashing it ever since. There's Jon Burrows, he is our pots and pans smasher, we met Jon on joinmyband.com back in 2018/19 and he still hasn't escaped. Then there is Jordan Etches our bass player, Jordan joined us earlier this year and has fit right in with the guys. I and Jordan go way back to being kids in our first ever deathcore band, I say deathcore was more terrible core, how we sold out the academy I have no idea

3. Were any of you in bands before?

We all come from music backgrounds except for Ollie, Ventures is his first band.

Me and Jordan used to have a band called “Promise Me The Sky” that then went on to become “Even When Dead” EWD was also our old guitarists and vocals old band with me.

Jordan had an indie punk band called “The Build” and Jon used to be in the indie band “Drive Me Home”

4. How would YOU describe your sound?

I would say it is a metalcore twang with pop/hip hop and anything else thrown in, when it comes to writing music I don't like to take anything off the table. Just because a producer might use something in a DnB track does not mean I can't use it in my music

5. What are your musical influences?

This one always shocks a few people as we’re all so different when it comes to influences, mine would have to be bands like Busted, A7X, and Good Charlotte. Ollies would be Navarna, ZZ Top and anything with some dirty bass. Jon is probably the only one of the 4 that consistently listens to metal music dauntless we’ve bullying him with something else

6. What have been up to lately? any new stuff to delight our ears?

We’ve been spending a lot of time writing over this year whilst slowly releasing when we can. For the last few years, we’ve been just growing our discography and trying to get an online reach. We’re hoping 2025 we’ll be able to make a lot more time to get onto the road and see as many of you as we can

7. How about live dates? What have you been doing and what ya got planned for 2024?

We don't have much left for 2024 booked currently but keep your eyes on our socials as everything we announce can be found over there

So far left in 2024 we have the following

● July 12th: Old Pint Pot, Salford
● July 29th: Aatma, Manchester City Centre
● November 29th: The Rutland, Chesterfield
●

8. Name something about yourselves that fans won't know

I’ve been on Tonight with Trevor Mcdonal ;)

9. Whats the most embarrassing moment you've had?

Probably when I was a young teenager thinking I could do anything, belting my favourite song as loud as I could to be told by most of my friends that I couldn't sing and sound like a dead cat

10. Do you have any superstitions? Any things you do before a show?

No superstitions here just crippling OCD that sees me running and checking the set-up over and over again, fans are starting to think I'm just the stagehand haha

11. Are there any musicians or bands you'd love to work with?

Any of the greats is a given right?

I’d love to work with musicians who push the envelope on what their genre thinks is the norm. Jordan Fish and Tim Henson just to name 2

12. Any final thoughts?

Thank you for taking the time to have me and thank you to everyone who reads and checks us out

I’ve been Richard from Ventures and I hope to meet you one day so we can party
