Country: IrelandLabel: Distort The Scene/Epictronic
Let's start at the beginning then. When did the band form?
Martin: We have been playing music since the 90s, but Movment began about 2008.
Kevin: We released music with Raw Novembre, before Movment, our side project, became the main band in about 2008.
Who's in the band?
Martin: Myself, Martin Kelly, and my brother Kevin Kelly, are Movment. We write the songs.
Kevin: Live we have had some extra members, notably, Mark Kelly, and Isabella Rowden Kelly.
Were any of you in bands before?
Martin: Yes, our first band was Raw Novembre, and we released 3 albums, an EP and some singles
Kevin: Yeah, we were active until about 2007 and then we focused on Movment, our side project.
How would YOU describe your sound?
Martin: Alternative Rock
Kevin: Post Punk (music inspired by punk), Indie (we have mostly released music ourselves on our own label, Distort The Scene) Dark Wave Goth (We have added synths and atmosphere to our songs in recent times, and there is a dark element to what we produce)
What are your musical influences?
Martin: Iron Maiden, New Model Army, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins
Kevin: Joy Division, Pixies, Jesus & Mary Chain, Sparklehorse
What have been up to lately? any new stuff to delight our ears?
Martin: We have just released a new album, REINVENTION, and we are promoting that at the moment.
Kevin: We are also recording a new batch of songs, which we will release in 2024, probably as a batch of singles or an EP. And we are writing new material for our next album.
How about live dates? What have you been doing and what ya got planned for 2024?
Martin: We have no gigs lined up at the moment, but perhaps later in 2024 we will play some dates.
Kevin: We are writing and recording which is our main focus at present.
Name something about yourselves that fans won't know
Martin: I’m a sci-fi fan, films and tv shows. I find space, and science inspiring.
Kevin: I’m very interested in technology, so I keep up to date with the latest inventions.
What's the most embarrassing moment you've had?
Martin: I fell into the drum kit once, I just got carried away. It can happen!
Kevin: Letting my guitar fall during soundcheck, no damage done, just embarrassing!
Do you have any superstitions? Any things you do before a show?
Martin: Not really. Once we are well rehearsed the show will take care of itself. The key part is connecting with the audience. And preparation is a key part of that.
Kevin: We like to keep things dark, so black is featured in lots of things we do, songs, artwork, stage shows. It is not necessarily evil, just intense and atmospheric. Black goes well with rock music.
Are there any musicians or bands you'd love to work with?
Martin: Yeah, Trent Reznor, or Rammstein, or Queens of the Stone Age
Kevin: Depeche Mode, or The Pixies, or maybe LCD Soundsystem.
Any final thoughts?
Martin: I think if anyone listens to new bands these days, they must make a huge effort to do so, as there is so much good music out there, and lots of old stuff to listen to as well. So, thank you for listening to our songs if you do.
Kevin: I know everybody likes their favourite bands and songs, but it is important to listen to new music too. You might not like it all, but it encourages bands to be creative, and who knows you might find a new band that inspires you and becomes part of your musical experience in life. Support new music!
