Band Name: Atomic Agent
Country: Finland
Label: Independent
1. Let's start at the beginning then. When did the band form?
2017.
2. Who's in the band?
Me, as in Al Aston. I write, sing, and play everything. For live purposes we have a line-up, that also includes Count Jan Woods on drums, Neville van der Smith on bass and Nicholas de Sin on rhythm guitar.
3. Were any of you in bands before?
I’ve had a metal band for years and it’s still very much active recording and playing gigs. I also used to play in a certain punk hardcore band ages ago. Jan and Neville are in the metal band with me too, and Nicholas has been playing in a metal band of his own for some years.
4. How would YOU describe your sound?
Dark, melodic, and groovy. There is a lot of Hard Rock on the base, but especially the guitar melodies and some vocals are very Gothic. And as my voice is very dark, it gives everything a very goth-y feeling, as do the topics of the lyrics. Since I’ve always loved certain rockabilly and punk stuff, a lot of that groove comes from there.
5. What are your musical influences?
I think the most important ones, are the more guitar-oriented Goth Rock bands, like Love Like Blood and Fields Of The Nephilim, and then all sorts of Hard Rock in general, but Billy Idol stands out for me. Then there’s a lot of Gothic Metal influence, rockabilly, punk etc. But lest we forget, Atomic Agent was born because of The Sisters Of Mercy, it just quickly grew out of that “plain Goth Rock” sound.
6. What have been up to lately? any new stuff to delight our ears?
There’s a couple of fresh single releases, for songs called Diva and Shelter. Diva features a promising Finnish talent Amanda Aalto, who’s gifts Atomic Agent will be exploiting for another new song, that will be released on an EP later this year. That EP will contain a couple of songs that were left out from the debut full-length, some of it will be very stormy Goth Rock, some almost pure rockabilly, and so on.
7. How about live dates? What have you been doing and what ya got planned for 2024?
We already had some plans about playing gigs this coming Autumn, but we took a time-out on that. We’ve been rehearsing for a few months, but we’re still looking for a lead-guitarist with a sense of certain style, and we want to get our live act as tight as possible first. Anyway, when there will be live dates, they will happen in Finland at first, surely.
8. Name something about yourselves that fans won't know
One of us is working on jet engines.
9. What's the most embarrassing moment you've had?
I know this is a lame answer, but as a band there haven’t been any yet. But anxiously waiting for the big one, maybe we’ll forget to put on pants on the first gig!
10. Do you have any superstitions? Any things you do before a show?
This one gets a lame answer too: I have zero superstitions. But I am practical, and I always check on certain things and do certain procedures concerning my equipment. Maybe in the future I’ll have to make sure I have my pants on before entering the stage, he-he.
11. Are there any musicians or bands you'd love to work with?
I’m open-minded on that, but I’ll go with Mirel Wagner and Nick Cave. And Jello Biafra would be fabulous!
12. Any final thoughts?
Thank you for having us on ROX Alive! We hope you enjoy the new singles by Atomic Agent, love ya!
